Grandmother really liked the doll Pat got for her birthday present. She said that, when she was a little girl, dolls were not so beautiful and they couldn’t walk and talk like Pat’s doll. She said she was sure Pat would love playing with her new doll.

Pat was very pleased to hear Grandmother say that. Pat knows that her doll is a very special doll and she is so pleased that Mommy and Daddy bought it for her. Pat thinks she will play with her new doll all day tomorrow.

Tomorrow will be a very busy day for everyone in Pat’s family. First, Daddy will have to drive the children to school. Tomorrow will be the children’s last day at school this year. Next week will be the start of the children’s long school holiday.

While the boys were doing that, Mommy was saying goodbye to Pat’s friends. She wanted to be sure that they all had their hats and bags with them before they went home. Mommy knows that if the children forget something, they will not be able to come back and get it next week. Next week, the family will not be at the house. They will all be on holiday.

Daddy

It’s all right, Pat. Children are usually noisy at parties. Tell me, what did you enjoy most about the party?

Pat

Well, I really liked it when I won the Music and Chairs game. I liked all the games we played, and I liked the food we ate. But most of all, I liked the present you and Mommy gave me.

Daddy

Oh, I’m pleased to hear you liked your present. What about the cake? Did you like your birthday cake?

Pat

Yes, I did. And I really liked blowing out all the candles on the cake.

Daddy

What did you wish for while you were blowing out the candles. Can you tell me?

Pat

No, Daddy. Of course I can’t. Mommy told me we should never tell people what we wish for when we blow out the candles on our birthday cake.

Daddy

Oh that’s right, isn’t it? Sometimes, I forget things like that. Well, I’m going to have something to eat before I go to bed. Would you like something, too. How about a nice piece of brown bread?

Pat

No, thanks. I’m not very hungry after all that birthday cake. Thank you, Daddy! Thank you for my special birthday present. I just love it!

Daddy

I’m pleased to hear that. Good night, Pat. See you in the morning.

Pat

Good night, Daddy. I’m really, really tired now and ready for bed, but I can’t wait to get up tomorrow and play with my new doll!
