There are quite a lot of children in Pat’s class now. Last week, there were seventeen children. There were seventeen children last week, but this week there is a new girl in the class, so now there are eighteen children. The teacher thinks eighteen is enough. She doesn’t want to have more than eighteen children in the class.

Sometimes, the children in Pat’s class are naughty. Pat is never naughty, but some of the other children are. Sometimes, if someone is naughty, the teacher gets angry.

Usually, the girls in Pat’s class are not naughty, but some of the boys are. Sometimes, those boys play when they should be studying. When children are naughty, it is difficult to teach them. The teacher doesn’t want to get angry, but sometimes she has to. She sometimes gets angry with Lee and Tom.

Tom

Pat

Tom

Pat

Tom

Pat

Tom

Pat

Tom

Pat

Sixteen and one is seventeen. Now, how many is seventeen and one?

Tom

I don’t know.

Pat

Seventeen and one is eighteen. Now Tom, count from twelve to eighteen.

Tom

All right. Twelve, thirteen, fourteen, fifteen, sixteen, seventeen, eighteen. That’s right, isn’t it? Can we stop now – I’m getting tired.

Pat

What? You’re tired already? Oh, you are difficult to teach, aren’t you?

Tom

Am I?

Pat

Yes. You don’t really want to learn. Don’t ask me to help you again! I’m not interested in helping someone who doesn’t really want to learn.
