Now dinner is ready, and Lee is putting the plates on the dinner table. We know Lee never cooks, but he sometimes helps to get the other things ready so everyone can start eating.

Pat puts a lot of vegetables on Lee’s plate. She puts them with his rice. Now, nearly everything is ready. There is just the meat to put on the plates. There is not a lot of meat; there is just a little. Pat puts quite a lot of the meat on Daddy’s plate, but she only puts a little on Lee’s plate.

Lee doesn’t think so. He tells Pat that vegetables like potatoes just make people fat. Lee says he doesn’t want to be fat. He says that his friend Tom is quite fat and that it is sometimes difficult for him to play games with the other boys. He asks Pat to take away some of his vegetables and give him some more meat.

No, never. Lee is not interested in cooking. He’s only interested in eating.

Daddy

What wrong with Lee today? He’s very quiet, and he doesn’t look very happy.

Mommy

He’s not very happy. He’s not pleased with Pat because she only gave him a little meat for his dinner.

Daddy

I see. Well, he can have some of my meat if he wants. There’s still some on my plate. I don’t want it all. I’m not very hungry today.

Mommy

No. Lee will just have to eat the meat Pat gave him. I want him to eat more vegetables and not so much meat. Vegetables are better for him than meat.

Daddy

All right. But don’t make him eat too many potatoes. They will make him fat like me.

Mommy

You’re not fat.

Daddy

Yes, I am. Look at me. I wasn’t this fat when I was young.

Mommy

Oh, you’re O.K. Here, give me your cup. Let me get you another cup of coffee.

Daddy

Oh, no thanks. Just one cup of coffee is enough today. If I drink too much coffee, I can’t sleep.

Mommy

All right. Look at that meat on your plate. Can’t you finish it?

Daddy

Well, you see, I think I know someone who would like this meat more than me.

Mommy

I know what you’re thinking. You’re going to give that meat to Lee after I go out of the room.

Daddy

What if I am? I don’t want him to go to sleep hungry.

Mommy

He won’t go to sleep hungry. I told you! He has enough vegetables. Now, come on! Finish your meat!

Daddy

Yes, Mommy.
