Function This pattern refers to each member of a given group engaged in her/his own pursuit.

1 他們結婚以後，因為在不同的城市上班，還是各住各的。

Tāmen jiéhūn yǐhòu, yīnwèi zài bùtóng de chéngshì shàngbān, háishì gè zhù gè de.

Since they’ve been married, because they work in different cities, each lives his or her own life.

2 他們各說各的，沒辦法一起討論。

Tāmen gè shuō gè de, méi bànfǎ yìqǐ tǎolùn.

Everyone was talking past each other. There was no way to get any discussion done.

3 我們雖然一起去故宮博物院，可是我們的興趣不同，各看各的。

Wǒmen suīrán yìqǐ qù Gùgōng Bówùyuàn, kěshì wǒmen de xìngqù bùtóng, gè kàn gè de.

Although we went to the Palace Museum together, each of us has his own interest, so each visited what he wanted to see.

4 他們同居好幾年了，可是晚飯常常是各吃各的。

Tāmen tóngjū hǎojǐ nián le, kěshì wǎnfàn chángcháng shì gè chī gè de.

They have lived together for many years, but they often eat their meals on their own.

5 他們一起去夜市，可是各逛各的。

Tāmen yìqǐ qù yèshì, kěshì gè guàng gè de.

They went to the night market together, but split so each could check out what they wanted to see.
