Function 的 is used between the modifier and the primary noun.

1 漂亮的小姐

piàoliàng de xiǎojiě

pretty young lady

2 好喝的咖啡

hǎohē de kāfēi

tasty coffee

3 很好看的房子

hěn hǎokàn de fángzi

beautiful house

 

Usage Notice that 的 can be omitted when the modifier and the head noun are used together frequently. For example, when talking about nationality, one says 哪國人nǎ guó rén ‘person from which country’, rather than ＊哪國的人＊nǎ guó de rén. One says 臺灣人Táiwān rén ‘Taiwanese people’ rather than ＊臺灣的人＊Táiwān de rén.
