▎把, bǎ, (Ptc), with V1V2V3 (3)

 

Function This is a sub-type of the 把-construction, in which a noun has been moved to a new location, specified by a sequence of V1 (action), V2 (direction), and V3 (in relation to the speaker).

1 我把垃圾拿出去了。

Wǒ bǎ lèsè ná chūqù le.

I took the garbage out.

2 他把書帶回去了。

Tā bǎ shū dài huíqù le.

He took the book back home.

3 高小姐從皮包裡把錢拿出來。

Gāo xiǎojiě cóng píbāo lǐ bǎ qián ná chūlái.

Miss Gao took money out of her purse.

4 主任請助教把李小姐的履歷表拿進來。

Zhǔrèn qǐng zhùjiào bǎ Lǐ xiǎojiě de lǚlì biǎo ná jìnlái.

The director had the TA bring in Miss Li’s resume.

 

Structures The basic pattern is Subj＋把＋Obj＋V1V2V3.

 

Negation：

1 我沒把書帶回來。

Wǒ méi bǎ shū dài huílái.

I did not bring the book back.

2 你別把蛋糕放進背包裡去。

Nǐ bié bǎ dàngāo fàngjìn bēibāo lǐ qù.

Don’t put the cake into your backpack.

3 她沒把買回來的衣服拿出來給朋友看。

Tā méi bǎ mǎi huílái de yīfú ná chūlái gěi péngyǒu kàn.

She didn’t show her friends the new clothes she bought.

Questions：

1 張先生是不是把公司的車開回去了？

Zhāng xiānshēng shìbúshì bǎ gōngsī de chē kāi huíqù le?

Did Mr. Zhang drive the company car back to his place?

2 我剛剛請你幫我買一杯咖啡。你把咖啡買回來了嗎？

Wǒ gānggāng qǐng nǐ bāng wǒ mǎi yì bēi kāfēi. Nǐ bǎ kāfēi mǎi huílái le ma?

Did you buy the coffee which I asked for back?

3 搬家的時候，你要把這些桌子、椅子都搬過去嗎？

Bānjiā de shíhòu, nǐ yào bǎ zhèxiē zhuōzi, yǐzi dōu bān guòqù ma?

While moving out, would you bring these tables, chairs with you?

 

Usage The object in the 把-construction is always definite, even though a definite noun is sometimes disquised as indefinite.

1 我把那本英文書帶回來了。

Wǒ bǎ nà běn Yīngwén shū dài huílái le.

I brought back that English book.

2 ＊我把一本英文書帶回來了。

＊Wǒ bǎ yì běn Yīngwén shū dài huílái le.

I brought back an English book.

3 對不起，我把一件事忘了！

Duìbùqǐ, wǒ bǎ yí jiàn shì wàng le!
