kuài lái kuài lái, mínjiān wényì biǎoyǎn yào kāishǐ le.
Come here, come here. The folk art performance is about to start.
wā, zhēn hǎowán. wǒ zài Měiguó de Tángrén jiē jīngcháng néng kàndào wǔlóng hé wǔshī, dàn cónglái méi kàndào guo zhèzhǒng biǎoyǎn.
Wow, so much fun. When I went to Chinatown in the U.S., I often saw dragon dancing and lion dancing, but I've never seen this kind of performance.
hāhā, jīntiān bǎozhèng ràng nǐ dàkāiyǎnjiè. nǐ yǐqián kàndào de dà dōu shì Guǎngdōng tèsè de, yīnwèi zài Tángrén jiē Guǎngdōng rén bǐjiào duō. dàn Zhōngguó dìdàwùbó, bùtóng dìfang yǒu bùtóng tèsè de biǎoyǎn, mínjiān wényì shǎoshuō yě yǒu jǐ bǎi zhǒng.
Haha. I guarantee today will broaden your horizons. The kind you saw before was mostly the Guangdong style. That's because there are a lot of people from Guangdong province in Chinatown. But China is a big place. Different places have different, particular styles of performance. There are hundreds of kinds of folk arts.
yí? zhèxiē rén zěnme zhème gāo, shì zájìyǎnyuán ba.
Huh? How are these people so tall? They're acrobats, no?
tāmen shì zài cǎigāoqiāo, zhèzhǒng biǎoyǎn zài Zhōngguó yǒuzhe hěn yōujiǔ de lìshǐ.
They're doing stilt-walking. This kind of performance has a really long history in China.
zhèyàng yīnggāi yě hěn duànliàn shēntǐ ba, hāhā. āi, hòumian gēn zhe de rén zěnme dōu tào zhe chuán yīyàng de dàojù? yīnggāi shì zài biǎoshì huáchuán ba.
That's gotta be good exercise, as well. Haha. Hey, why are the people following behind all wearing boat-like props? They're acting out rowing a boat, right?
duì, nà shì zài pǎohànchuán, zhèzhǒng biǎoyǎn zài Shānxī bǐjiào liúxíng.
Yeah. That's the 'running-on-land-boat' dance. This kind of performance is quite popular in Shanxi province.
wǒmen qù nàbiān kàn kan ba. wā, jīntiān zhēnshì rénshānrénhǎi!
Let's go over and take a look. Wow, this place is packed today.
A: 好的。
Okay. Look, this is a dough figurine. It has two to three hundred years of history.
zhè ge shì Sūn Wùkōng ba, niē de zhēn xiàng, wǒ yào mǎi yī ge.
This is Sun Wukong, right? It really looks like him. I'm going to buy one.
wǒ xiǎo shíhou kě xǐhuan zhèxiē xiǎo wányìr le, měicì kànjiàn dōu yào mǎi.
When I was little, I really liked these little playthings. Every time I saw one, I had to have it.
kuài kàn zhè ge, zhè shì shénme a? xiàng yī fú huà, dàn wén shàngqu yòu xiāngxiāngtiántián de.
Quick, look at this. What is this? It looks like a painting, but when you smell it, it's fragrant and sweet.
ò, zhè shì tánghuà.
Oh, that's a sugar-painting.
yòng táng huà chūlái de?
A painting made of sugar?
shì a, bùxìn nǐ chángchang.
That's right. If you don't believe me, try it.
ng4, zhēnde, hěn tián. zhēn hǎowán, wǒ kàn zhè dàjiē shang de měi ge rén dōu xìnggāocǎiliè de, tèbié shì xiǎo háizi.
Yep, that's right. It's sweet. Fun. Everyone I see on this street is in high spirits. Especially the kids.
shì a, ràng wǒ xiǎng qǐ le xiǎo shíhou. bùguò, zhèxiē mínjiān wényì yě zài zhújiàn de xiāowáng.
Yeah, it makes me think of when I was young. However, these folk arts are slowly dying out.
ā? wèishénme?
Huh? Why?
nǐ méi fāxiàn ma? wǒmen kàndào de zhèxiē mínjiān yìrén dōushì shàng le niánjì de, méiyǒu yī ge shì niánqīngrén. xiànzài nǎge jiāzhǎng yuànyì ràng xiǎohái xué zhè ge. nǐ qù wèn wen nàxiē jiǔlíng hòu, zhīdào zhèxiē mínjiān yìshù de zhēnshì yuèláiyuè shǎo le.
You haven't noticed? All the folk artists we've seen today are elderly. There isn't even one young person. These days, what parents would let their kid study this? Go ask those kids born in the 90's. Less and less of them even know about these folk arts.
zhèdàoshì. wǒ juéde Zhōngguó yīnggāi xiǎng bànfǎ bǎohù hé hóngyáng zhèxiē yìshù, bǎ tā fāyáng guāngdà. bìjìng mínzú de cáishì shìjiè de ma. āi, wǒmen qù nàbiān kàn kan ba. hěn duō rén dōu cóng nà dào mén jìnqù. zàoxíng hěn piàoliang, gǔsègǔxiāng de.
Yeah, that's right. I think China should think of a way to protect and develop these arts; bring them forward into the future. After all, ethnic heritage belongs to world, no? Hey, let's go over there and have a look. A bunch of people are going in through that doorway. Their costumes are really beautiful. They have a very antiquated feel.
hāhā, nà shì cèsuǒ.
Haha, that's the bathroom.
