You have to wait till later to enjoy it, and you have to go back to your original home to get it. And you have to pick it up in accordance with local rules! I'd be better off taking advantage of my youth to save a little more money to use when I'm old!
B 也是。我們要有上海戶口就好了！沒戶口找女朋友都難。夫妻雙方都不是上海戶口的話，將來小孩兒的戶口還是得落回老家去，那上學、高考什麼的，麻煩就大了。

That's true. How great would it be if we had Shanghai residence permits! If you don't have a residence permit, it's really hard to get a girl friend. If both parents don't have Shanghai residence permits, in the future, they're kid will be registered all the way back in their original residence. Going to school, taking the university entrance exam and so on are just that much more difficult.
A 說的對。咱年輕，暫時看不出戶口有什麼好。不過涉及到下一代，就不一樣了。上海小孩考個上海的大學多容易啊，名額多，分數又低，典型的地方保護主義嘛。

That's right. We're young, and for the time being, we can't see the benefit of registering. But it's different when it affects the next generation. It's so easy for Shanghainese kids to get into Shanghai universities. There's a bigger quota for them, and they can do it with a lower score. It's classic regional protectionism.
B 萬惡的戶籍制度啊！上海說是吸引人才，可引進人才又解決不了戶口！就算工資高也沒有一紙戶口讓人覺得安定。這戶籍制度就是阻礙人才流動的罪魁禍首，早該廢除了！

Damn the household registration system! Shanghai says it attracts talent, but attracting talent doesn't solve the registration problem! Even a high salary doesn't matter if you don't have that piece of paper that lets you feel secure. This household registration system is the main culprit hindering the flow of talent. It should be eliminated as soon as possible.

Small-scale reforms are possible. What I mean is that the entire country can't loosen up all at once. Our country isn't set up for this. Medicine, education, care for the elderly-- these are all problems. Regardless of what kind of people they are-- if they all rushed into the big cities, which city could take that kind of pressure?
