āyō, gānggāng zài jiǔbā ménkǒu pèngjiàn hǎojǐ ge qǐgài. dōu shì xiǎo háizi, kànzhe tài kělián le. kěshì gěi le yīge, jiù wéi shànglái yīduī. wǒ bǎ língqián dōu gěi guāng le.
Oh, man. Just now at the entrance to the bar I bumped into a bunch of beggars. They're all little kids, and they seem really pathetic. But if you give something to one of them, they all pile on around you. I gave out all my spare change.
Shànghǎi de qǐgài yǐjīng suànshì shǎo de le. jīběnshang dōu zài wàiguó rén duō de dìfang chūmò. háiyǒu jiùshì guònián qián, huì yǒng jìnlái yīpī, zhǔyào shì zhuàn diǎn guònián qián.
There aren't actually that many beggars in Shanghai. Most of them pop up at places with a lot of foreigners. And then right before the New Year, a bunch of them flood in. Mainly, they want to earn some money for celebrating the new year.
kànlai tāmen hái tǐng huì tiāo shíjī de. nà, qítā chéngshì de qǐgài hěn duō ma?
Seems like they're really good at timing their opportunities. So, are there a lot of beggars in other cities?
yǒu xiē chéngshì de qǐgài dōu shì hùxiāng gōujié guāfēn dìpán de. tāmen yǒu yánmì de zǔzhī, huì yòng gèzhǒng niánlíng de rén, gèzhǒng fāngshì qù qǐtǎo. fǎnzhèng jiùshì wúsuǒbùzài.
Beggars in some cities are organized. They split up their turf. They have a strict organization. They'll use all ages of people, and all kinds of methods, to beg. Anyway, they're everywhere.
wǒ kàndào nàxiē xiǎoháizi zài qǐtǎo zhēnde hěn xīnsuān. cái nàme dà yīdiǎn , jiù wèi shēnghuó suǒ pò chūlai qǐtǎo. bùnéng shàngxué, yǐhòu kě zěnme bàn ne?
When I see those little kids begging I really feel rotten. So young, and they are forced to come out and beg to survive. They can't go to school. What will they do later on?
hěn duō háizi hé fùnǚ dōu shì rén fànzi guǎilái de, lìyòng tāmen zhuànqián. hěn hēiàn de. bùguò yě yǒu qǐgài shì yóushǒuhàoxián, míngmíng zìjǐ yǒu láodòng nénglì, dànshì chūlai zuò zhíyè qǐgài.
A lot of women and children are summoned by traffickers who use them to make money. It's very shady. But there are also some beggars who live the life of Riley. They clearly have the ability to work, but they come out to work as professional beggars.
ā? shénme yìsi?
Huh? What do you mean?
jiùshì bǎ zhè ge dāng gōngzuò. yīnwèi qǐtǎolái qián róngyì. tīngshuō yǒude rén chūlai jǐnián, huíqu dōu néng gài xiǎolóufáng le.
They do this as a job. Because it's easy to make money by begging. I've heard that some people come out for a few years, then go back and build a little house for themselves.
wǒ bù xiāngxìn yǒurén huì xuǎnzé zhèzhǒng shēnghuó fāngshì. kěndìng shì bèi bī wúnài, huòzhě yǒu shénme nányánzhīyǐn. érqiě xiànzài gěi qián de rén yě bùshì hěn duō. kào qǐtǎo zhìfù hái shì yǒudiǎn kuāzhāng ba.
I don't believe anyone would choose this kind of lifestyle. It's definitely something they were compelled to do, or they have some deep dark secret. And these days, there aren't a lot of people who give money. It seems a little bit out-there to get rich just by begging.
zhè nǐ jiù bùdǒng le . wǒ wèn nǐ, nǐ yǒu méiyǒu kànguò yǒurén guì zài lùbiān, qiánmian tān yī zhāng zhǐ, shàngmian xiě yī ge hěn qīcǎn de gùshi, qiúrén bāngzhù?
You just don't understand this. I'm asking you, have you ever seen people kneeling on the side of the road with a piece of paper in front of them with a tragic story written on it, asking people to help them?
A 有啊。
yǒu ā. háiyǒu yīxiē huì biǎoyǎn yīxiē jiǎndān de yīnyuè.
Yeah. And there are also some who can perform simple music.
nàxiē huì biǎoyǎn de kě bushì qǐtǎo, rénjiā hǎodǎi yě fùchū le láodòng. wǒ yī bān dōu huì bāng tāmen. kěshì nàxiē guì zài lùbiān yīdòng bùdòng de rén jiù nánshuō le, yǒu hěn duō dōu shì jiǎ de. yī tiān xiàlái pèngshàng jǐge xiàng nǐ zhème yǒu tóngqíngxīn de rén shōuhuò kěshì bù xiǎo ā. suǒyǐ xiànzài zhíyè qǐgài yuèláiyuèduō le. lìngwài, zuì pà de jiùshì qiánmian shuō de nàxiē yǒu zǔzhī fànzuì xìngzhì de qǐgài tuánhuǒ, tāmen chú le guǎimài fùnǚ értóng yǐwài, hái yǒu kěnéng dǎzhe qǐtǎo de huǎngzi, gàn xiē tōu qiǎng de huàishì. zhè shì zhìān zhōng de dà wèntí.
The ones who do performances aren't beggars. At least they are putting in some effort. Generally, I help them out. But as for those who kneel at the side of the road, completely motionless, it's harder to say. A lot of them are fake. In a single day, if they bump into a couple empathetic people like you, they can make a pretty penny. So these days, there are more and more professional beggars. Plus, the scariest ones are those we just talked about. Some are organized criminal gangs of beggars. Besides trafficking in women and children, they may also do bad things like stealing under the pretense of begging. This is a big problem for public safety.
nà Zhōngguó yǒu méiyǒu bāngzhù qǐgài de yīxiē jīgòu?
So, does China have any organizations to help beggars?
yǒu ā. hěn duō chéngshì dōu yǒu jiùzhùzhàn tiáojiàn hái hěn bùcuò. wèi qǐgài tígōng duǎnzàn de bāngzhù, ránhòu bǎ tāmen sònghuí yuánjí. dànshì hǎo duō rén dōu bù yuànyi qù.
Yes. A lot of cities have aid stations where the conditions are pretty good. They provide temporary help for beggars, and then return them to their home regions. But a lot of people don't want to go back.
A 為什麼?
wèishénme?
Why not?
Maybe their life back home is even more painful. It's not as comfortable as living as a beggar in the cities.
nǐ kàn, háishì yīnwèi biéwúxuǎnzé cái huì qǐtǎo.
See, the only reason they become beggars is that they have no other choice.
línzǐ dà le, shénme niǎo dōu yǒu. zhè ge wèntí méi bànfǎ yīdāoqiē. yǒu xiē qǐgài quèshí kělián, yǒu xiē jiù bié yǒu yòngxīn le.
It takes all kinds. There's no clean, easy way to solve this problem. Some beggars are really pathetic, and some have ulterior motives.
āi, shēnghuó zhēnshì bù gōngping ā.
Ah, life is really unfair.
