B 上海的乞丐已經算是少的了。基本上都在外國人多的地方出沒。還有就是過年前，會湧進來一批，主要是賺點過年錢。

B 很多孩子和婦女都是人販子拐來的，利用他們賺錢。很黑暗的。不過也有乞丐是遊手好閒，明明自己有勞動能力，但是出來做職業乞丐。

They do this as a job. Because it's easy to make money by begging. I've heard that some people come out for a few years, then go back and build a little house for themselves.

I don't believe anyone would choose this kind of lifestyle. It's definitely something they were compelled to do, or they have some deep dark secret. And these days, there aren't a lot of people who give money. It seems a little bit out-there to get rich just by begging.
B 這你就不懂了。我問你，你有沒有看過有人跪在路邊，前面攤一張紙，上面寫一個很悽慘的故事，求人幫助？

The ones who do performances aren't beggars. At least they are putting in some effort. Generally, I help them out. But as for those who kneel at the side of the road, completely motionless, it's harder to say. A lot of them are fake. In a single day, if they bump into a couple empathetic people like you, they can make a pretty penny. So these days, there are more and more professional beggars. Plus, the scariest ones are those we just talked about. Some are organized criminal gangs of beggars. Besides trafficking in women and children, they may also do bad things like stealing under the pretense of begging. This is a big problem for public safety.
A 那中國有沒有幫助乞丐的一些機構？

B 有啊。很多城市都有救助站，條件還很不錯。為乞丐提供短暫的幫助，然後把他們送回原籍。但是好多人都不願意去。

Maybe their life back home is even more painful. It's not as comfortable as living as a beggar in the cities.

B 林子大了，什麼鳥都有。這個問題沒辦法一刀切。有些乞丐確實可憐，有些就別有用心了。
