zuìjìn pūtiāngàidì de dōu shì Tèàohuì de xīnwén, ràng rén bù guānzhù dōu bù xíng.
Lately, news about the Special Olympics is everywhere! It's impossible not to notice it.
shì a, zhè shì Zhōngguó dì yī cì jǔbàn Tèàohuì, suǒyǐ zhōngyāng zhèngfǔ hé Shànghǎi shì zhèngfǔ dōu tèbié zhòngshì.
Yeah. This is China's first time hosting the Special Olympics, so the central government and the Shanghai municipal government are paying special attention to it.
wǒ gǎnjué yǐqián hěn shǎo kàndào yǒuguān zhìzhàng qúntǐ de bàodào. hǎoxiàng dàjiā dōu juéde zhè shì jìnjì, bùnéng tán. kě xiànzài bù yīyàng le, zhèngfǔ kāizhǎn le hǎo duō xuānchuán huódòng, hūyù shèhuì dàzhòng guānxīn tāmen, bāngzhù tāmen.
I think in the past it was rare to see reports about the mentally challenged. It seemed like everyone thought it was taboo, and could not be discussed. But it's not the same now. The government has come out with a lot of public awareness activities. They're calling out for society to take care of them and help them.
ng4, qíshí zhè shì yī ge hěn hǎo de qìjī, ràng dàjiā zǒujìn nàxiē zhìlì yǒu zhàngài de rénmen, qù guānzhù, lǐjiě tāmen. lǎoshí shuō, suīrán xiànzài zhěnggè shèhuì duì tāmen de qíshì yǐjīng xiāojiǎn le bùshǎo, dàn dàduōshù rén háishì juéde zìjǐ lí tāmen tèbié yáoyuǎn, háishì huì yǒuyì wúyì de duǒbì tāmen, cháo tāmen tóuqù yìyàng de yǎnguāng.
Oh, actually this is a really good turning point. It will make everyone get closer to the mentally challenged people, pay attention to them and understand them. To tell you the truth, although the entire society's discrimination toward them has already been much reduced, the majority of people still feel that there's a big gap between them. Wittingly or unwittingly, they still avoid them. They look at them through different eyes.
zhèyàng duō bù hǎo a. miànduì zhèyàng lěngbīngbīng de huánjìng, tāmen zěnme kěnéng bù chǎnshēng zìbēi xīnlǐ ne? suǒyǐ tāmen jí shǎo néng zhēnzhèng cānyù dào shèhuì huódòng zhōng qù. yǐqián wǒ kàndào guo zhìzhàng rénshì wújiākěguī, liúlàng jiētóu de bàodào, yě zhīdào hǎo duō rén shì zài jiālǐ kào qīnrén de zhàogu huòshì zài fúlìyuàn lǐ liǎoquè yúshēng de.
That's just no good. Facing this kind of cold and indifferent environment, how can they not feel low self-confidence? So they are very rarely able to really participate in social activities. In the past I saw reports about mentally retarded people with no home to go back to, drifting around on the open road. And I know that many people rely on their relatives to care for them at home, or spend their remaining years in institutions.
zhè díquè duì tāmen hěn bù gōngpíng. wǒ xiǎng duìyú zhìzhàng rénshì láishuō, wàijiè de lǐjiě hé ài shì hěn zhòngyào de. wǒmen dàjiā dōu yào cóng nèixīn lǐ xiāochú duì tāmen de qíshì, chǎngkāi xiōnghuái zhēnchéng de jiēshòu tāmen.
This is definitely very unfair to them. I think that understanding and love from the outside world is very important to the mentally challenged. Everybody should get rid of our prejudice toward them, and receive them with a sincere and welcoming heart.
Yes. We definitely need to do that. This time, the government has done really well with public awareness on this front. Plus, the Special Olympics has also found support from all parts of society. I've heard that in the Shanghai Special Olympics the ratio of volunteers to athletes is three to one. And they've done a lot of preparatory work. No matter whether it's in reception, facilities or popular awareness, they've all put a lot of thought into it, and used a lot of society's resources. It's safe to say that everyone is whole-heartedly making sure this Special Olympics is really meaningful.
duì a, wǒmen zhēnde yào gǎnxiè zhècì Tèàohuì, ràng wǒmen yǒu jīhuì zhēnzhèng zǒujìn zhìzhàng rénshì de shēnghuó, qù qīngtīng tāmen de shēngyīn.
Yes. We really need to be grateful to the Special Olympics for giving us a chance to get closer to the mentally challenged and letting us hear their voices.
As far as I'm concerned, another big benefit of the Special Olympics is that it allows us to discover mentally challenged people's specialties and their positive, ambitious attitude.
duì a, qíshí Tèào yě gěi le tāmen yī ge jí hǎo de jīhuì, ràng tāmen fāxiàn zìjǐ, shíxiàn zìjǐ de jiàzhí. jiù rú Tèào de kǒuhào yīyàng, `` nǐ xíng, wǒ yě xíng" . rén huó zhe, zuì zhòngyào de jiùshì zhǎodào zìjǐ de jiàzhí, zhèyàng cáinéng gèng yǒu xìnxīn de miànduì shēnghuó, jiēshòu tiǎozhàn.
That's for sure. Actually the Special Olympics have given them a special opportunity to shine, and to realize their own value. It's like the motto of the Special Olympics, ``I'm OK, You're OK." In people's lives, the most important thing is finding their own value. That's the only way you can have the self confidence to face your life and accept challenges.
A 是啊。
shì a. érqiě zhèzhǒng guójì xìng de huódòng yě néng jīlì zhèngfǔ cóng zhèngcè shang guānhuái zhìzhàng rénshì. Zhōngguó zài zhè fāngmiàn qǐbù bǐjiào wǎn, bùguǎn shì yīliáo, shèbǎo, jiàoyù, háishì shèhuì zhīchí tǐxì fāngmiàn, wǒmen yīdìng hái yǒu hěn duō kěyǐ zuò de.
Right. And this kind of international activity can also stimulate governments to come up with policies to care for the mentally retarded. On this point, China started fairly late. It doesn't matter whether it's medical care, social security, education, or social support, there's definitely a lot more we can do.
nǐ shuō de duì, wǒ juéde Tèàohuì zhēnzhèng lājìn le wǒmen hé zhìzhàng rénshì de jùlí. xīwàng zhècì kāiwán Tèào, wǒmen shèhuì duìyú zhìzhàng rénshì de guānhuái néng yīzhí chíxù xiàqu.
That's right. I think the Special Olympics really reduced the distance between us and the mentally challenged. I hope that after these Special Olympics are done with, our society will keep on caring for the mentally retarded.
jiùshì, bié yòu zhǐshì zǒu guòchǎng, gǎo xíngshìzhǔyì.
Yeah, really. Let's hope we aren't just going through the motions for the sake of appearances.
