nǐ kàn nàge rén, shǒubì shang dōu shì wénshēn, xiàsǐ rén le.
Look at that guy. Tattoos all over his arms. It's horrifying!
zénme huì xiàrén? tā shǒubì shang de zhōngwénzì duō piàoliang! jiǎnzhí jiùshì réntǐ shūfǎ. qíshí, wénshēn kěshì yī mén yìshù.
How is that horrifying? The Chinese characters on his arms are so beautiful! It's simply calligraphy on a person's body. Actually, tattoos are a kind of art.
wǒ háishì bǐjiào chuántǒng, zǒng juéde wénshēn shì hēishèhuì de biāojì. bùguò, wàiguórén dào duì wén zhōngguózì tèbié rùmí. Hǎoláiwù míngxīng,NBA qiúxīng, shēnshang jīngcháng dōu wén zhe wǒmen de wénzì. yě suànshì tuīguǎng zhōngguówénhuà ba.
I'm still pretty traditional. I've always felt that tattoos are a symbol of organized crime. But foreigners are really into getting tattoos of Chinese characters. Hollywood stars, NBA stars- they often get our characters tattooed all over their bodies. Call it ''promoting Chinese culture."
tāmen tèbié xǐhuan wén yīxiē biǎodá Zhōngguó chuántǒng sīxiǎng de hànzì." zhōng、 xiào、 rén、 yì、 rěn” kěshì zuìshòuhuānyíngde wénshēn zìyàng. āi, zhè dào yǒudiǎn xiàng Yuèmǔcìzì de gùshì. bùguò hǎo duō wàiguórén yě bùtài dǒng zhèxiē wénzì de yìsi, tāmen zhǐshì dānchún de juéde zì hěn piàoliang.
They really like characters that depict traditional Chinese culture. The most popular characters for body tattoos are ''Loyalty, filial piety, benevolence, justice , forbearance." This is a little like the story of Yue Fei's mother-in-law's tattoos. But a lot of foreigners don't really understand what the characters mean. They just innocently see them as beautiful.
A: 是哦。
Yes. The most interesting tattoo I've seen was Chairman Mao's portrait, on boxing legend Mike Tyson's face. It was incredibly accurate! But getting that kind of exquisite tattoo would be extremely painful. Only Mike Tyson could endure it.
rén zǒngshì xǐhuan nàxiē zìjǐ méiyǒu de dōngxi, tú ge xīnxiān ma. nǐ kàn, zánmen zhōngguórén jiù bùtài zài shēnshang wén hànzì. dàgài shì juéde tài yīmùliǎorán le, zhèyàng jiù shīqù le nàzhǒng shénmì de gǎnjué.
People always like the things they don't have. They are always looking for something new. Look, we Chinese don't generally get Chinese character tattoos. It's probably because we figure it's too obvious, and so it loses that mysterious feeling.
yǒudiǎn dàolǐ. hěnduō zhōngguórén wénshēn, hǎoxiàng hái shì bǐjiào xǐhuan tú'àn. bùguò zǒngdeláishuō, dàzhòng hái shì bùtài néng jiēshòu wénshēn. hǎo duō rén zhǐshì mǎi yī zhāng wénshēn tiēzhǐ, shāowēi guò yīxià yǐn jiù xǐ diào le. bùguò yǒuxiē wénshēn tiēzhǐ de shèjì hái zhēnshì tǐng piàoliang de. shénme méiguihuā、 kǎtōnghuà、 hái yǒu wàiguó wénzì. ǒuěr chángshì yīxià, quèshí yě tǐng yǒuyìsi de.
That sorta makes sense. When they get tattoos, a lot of Chinese seem to get pictures. But in the end, most people can't really accept tattooing. A lot of people buy a stick-on tattoo, enjoy it for a bit, and then wash it off. But some stick-on tattoos are really beautiful. There's everything from roses to cartoons, and foreign lettering. It's actually a lot of fun, if you try it out once in a while.
Yeah. Tattoos are actually a really beautiful form of body art. How can they just be associated with gangs and rebels?
dàgài shì yīnwèi wénshēn shì yīzhǒng yǒngjiǔ de làoyìn, kěyǐ biǎomíng yī ge rén de zhōngxīn. bùguò, nǎ yǒu rén néng bǎozhèng zìjǐ yībèizi bù biànxīn? nǐ shuō rúguǒ duì zìjǐ wén de dōngxi yànjuàn le, nà zěnme bàn?
It's probably because tattoos are an eternal brand. They can show a person's commitment. But who can guarantee that they won't change their mind during their entire life? Tell me, what should you do if you start to get sick of the thing you got tattooed?
kěyǐ xǐ a. bùguò huì hěn téng, suǒyǐ wénshēn jiù xiàng tánliàn'ài, yīdìng yào shìxiān cāliàng yǎnjing, xuǎnzé zuì shìhé zìjǐ de.
You can take them off. But it's really painful. So tattoos are like being in love. You definitely need to go into it clear-eyed, and pick the one that suits you best.
A: 就是。
Yeah. And you have to look carefully at your lettering and pictures. After suffering so much, getting a wrong letter in there would be such a huge loss!
