OK, then. First, tell me about Shanghai's most respected restaurants.
B 上海老字號的餐飲店有20多家，最有名的是以上海本幫菜為特色的“德興館”和“上海老飯店”、以素食聞名的“功德林”、還有以點心著稱的“綠波廊”。
Shànghǎi lǎozìhào de cānyǐn diàn yǒu èrshí duō jiā, zuì yǒumíng de shì yǐ Shànghǎi běnbāng cài wéi tèsè de `` Déxīngguǎn" hé `` Shànghǎi lǎo fàndiàn" , yǐ sùshí wénmíng de `` Gōngdélín" , hái yǒu yǐ diǎnxīn zhùchēng de `` lǜbōláng" .
Shanghai has more than twenty of them. The most famous would be ``Dexing Restaurant" and ``The Old Shanghai Restaurant," which are known for their Shanghainese cooking. ``Gong De Lin" is famous for vegetarian food, and `` Lǜ Bo Lang" is known for its dim sum.

A lot of foreign and domestic leaders were received at ``Lǜ Bo Lang." American President Bill Clinton, Queen Elizabeth II of the U.K., as well as Jiang Zemin and Zhu Rongji and other leaders from the central government all went there to eat. The food, environment and level of service there are all top-drawer.

OK. Have you heard of the four big department stores on Nanjing Road?
A 我只知道南京路上有很多的百貨商店，可是從來沒數過有幾家。
wǒ zhǐ zhīdào Nánjīng Lù shàng yǒu hěn duō de bǎihuò shāngdiàn, kěshì cónglái méi shǔ guo yǒu jǐ jiā.
I just know that there are a lot of department stores on Nanjing Road. But I've never counted how many there are.
B 老上海的四大百貨公司分別是先施百貨、永安百貨、大新公司和新新公司，當年可以說是南京路“十里洋場”的象徵。不過現在這四家百貨公司中除了永安百貨仍在繼續營業外，其他的都已經歇業了，所以你沒聽過也不奇怪。

The four most respected old department stores in Shanghai are Xianshi department store, Yong An department store, Da Xin Co., and Xin Xin Co. In the old days, you could say that they were Nanjing Road's symbol of being ``a city full of foreigners." But now, except for Yong An, which has kept on operating, the others have gone out of business. So it's not that weird that you haven't heard of them.
A 都說“創業難，守業更難”，果然，經營老字號不是件容易的事。

Everyone says ``It's hard to start a business. But it's even harder to keep a business." As expected, it's not easy to run a respected old store.
B 可不是嘛，據調查，現在全國有七成的老字號都出現了經營困難的問題，而且基本上都是由於頑固守舊，不適應時代的要求，或是不注重法律保護，缺乏現代商標保護意識而引起的。

Ain't that the truth. According to a study, 70% of old, respected Chinese stores have had operational difficulties. And most were caused by conservatism, not adapting to modern needs, or to not paying attention to legal protection and lacking an awareness of modern brand protection.
A 看來老字號要想保持輝煌就不能“倚老賣老”，必須得不斷地進行品牌創新，而政府對老字號也要多加保護和扶持才行。
