But I hear the procedures for investing in China are really complicated. I have never really figured out exactly how to do it. Every time a foreign friend asks my advice, I don't know what to tell them. Even names like ``wholly owned foreign enterprise", ``Sino-foreign joint ventures", and ``Sino-foreign cooperative business" are enough to make my head spin.

As far as I know, as long as you provide the necessary proof of capital and credit from a bank, and personal identification, and it gets examined and approved by the government, you just go to the Department of Industry and Commerce to register and you're all set. Of course, don't forget to go to the foreign-affairs branch of the Bureau of National Taxation to take care of the procedures for paying your taxes.
