What have you been off doing lately? I haven't seen the slightest trace of you!
hāi hāi, wǒ qù Oūzhōu lǚyóu le, zhēn shuǎng!
Ha-ha, I went traveling in Europe. It was really cool!
A 不錯嘛!
bùcuò ma! guówài hǎowán ma?
Great! How was it over there?
hái xíng, fēngjǐng hěn bùcuò, wǒ tèbié xǐhuan Oūzhōu gǔ shì jiànzhù de fēnggé, zhēnshì biéyǒuyīfānfēngqíng. kěshì dào le guówài hòu cái fāxiàn, zhèlǐ bìng bù xiàng yǒuxiē rén shuō de nàyàng biàndì dōu shì huángjīn, yǒuxiē xiǎozhèn de shēnghuó yě hěn pǔshí.
Not bad-- the scenery was great. I really like the old-style architecture in Europe. It's really a very different atmosphere. But only when I got outside of China did I realize that it's not like some people say. Everything isn't made of gold over there. There are some little towns where people live very simply.
wǒ yīzhí juéde rénmen shuō guówài biàndì shì huángjīn tài kuāzhāng le. pǔshí de shēnghuó yě méishénme bù hǎo, zhǐyào guò de shūfu hé ānyì jiù xíng.
I always felt that people were exaggerating when they said that everything abroad was made of gold. And there's nothing wrong with a simple, honest life. As long as your life is easy and comfortable, it's fine.
méicuò. qíshí wǒmen dōu wùjiě le, yǐwéi guówài dōu shì fādá de dàdūshì, dàochù shì mótiāndàlóu, gāosùgōnglù, fánhuá shāngchǎng hé línyīn cǎopíng, qíshí xiànzài zhèxiē jǐngwù zài Běijīng, Shànghǎi děng dàchéngshì yě suíchǔ kějiàn, zài Oūzhōu gèng xīyǐn wǒ de fǎndàoshì shānjiān nàxiē hóngwěi, huīhuáng de gǔbǎo.
Yeah. Actually, we've all had some misconceptions. We thought that overseas it was all well-developed metropolises and skyscrapers, highways and bustling shopping malls. Actually, these days, you can see all that stuff in Beijing, Shanghai and other big cities. The things that really appealed to me in Europe were actually the splendid old mountain fortresses.
A 就是。
jiùshì. lǎoshí shuō, wǒ hěn fǎngǎn yǒuxiē rén chūguó huílai, jiù shuō shénme dōu shì guówài de hǎo, lián yuèliang dōu shì guówài de bǐjiào yuán, zhēnshì diǎnxíng de chóngyángmèiwài.
That's for sure. Frankly, I really can't stand some of these people who come back from overseas and say that everything over there is better. They even say that the moon is rounder in foreign countries. It's typical blind admiration of foreign things.
hēhē. wǒ kě méi zhème chóngyángmèiwài, bùguò yě bù dé bù chéngrèn, xīfāng fādá guójiā díquè yǒu hěn duō zhídé wǒmen xuéxí hé jièjiàn de dìfang. zhècì wǒ qù Oūzhōu, jiù duì tāmen gōnggòngjiāotōng xìtǒng zhéfú bùyǐ, xiànlù fùzá què yǒuxù, fēicháng biànlì.
Ha-ha. I don't blindly worship foreigners. But there's no denying, there is a lot about developed Western countries that is worth our studying and emulating. During this trip to Europe, I was endlessly impressed by their public transportation. There are tons of routes, and they're so orderly. It's extremely convenient.
A 這倒是。
zhè dàoshì. gāi xuéxí de dìfang shì yào duō xuéxí, dàn rúguǒ shéi yàoshì shuō shénma dōngxi dōu shì guówài de hǎo, wǒ kěshì dì yī ge jiù yào fǎnduì. wǒ yě bù zhǔzhāng shénme dōu xuéxí guówài de nà yītào, bìjìng Zhōngguó de guóqíng hé qítā guójiā bùyīyàng, jiùsuàn guówài de dōngxi zài xiānjìn, yě bùnéng shénme dōu cóng guówài zhàobān.
True. We should learn from the things that we should learn from. But if anyone says that everything is better overseas, I'll be the first one to say, ``No way!" And I don't advocate emulating everything about foreign countries. After all, China's national situation is different from theirs. No matter how advanced things are overseas, we can't just import everything unchanged from abroad.
hāhā, wǒ zàntóng. jiù ná chī de láishuō, lǎowàimen de shíwù suīrán yě hěnyǒu tèsè, dàn wǒ juéde hái shì guónèi de fēngfù. suīrán wǒ cái qù Oūzhōu shí jǐ tiān, yǐjīng kāishǐ xiǎngniàn Zhōngguó de gèsè càiyáo hé xiǎochī.
Ha ha, I agree. Let's just use food as an example. Although foreigners' eating habits are very distinctive, I still think that there's a better selection of stuff in China. Although I was only in Europe for about ten days, I was already starting to think fondly of all the different cuisines and snacks in China.
A 哈哈。
hāhā. zài Oūzhōu nǐ kě jiùshì lǎowài le. kěnéng wǒmen tōngcháng xíguàn bǎ Oūměi rén jiào lǎowài, dào guówài hái shì nányǐ gǎikǒu. qíshí Yàzhōu qítā guójiā `` lǎowài" de shíwù, wǒ hái shì hěn xíguàn de, bìjìng kǒuwèi xiāngjìn.
Ha ha. In Europe, you're the foreigner. Maybe because we're accustomed to calling Europeans and North Americans ``foreigners," it's hard for us to change our habit when we go abroad. Actually, I'm really accustomed to the foods eaten in other ``foreign" Asian countries. After all, their tastes are very similar.
yě shì. qíshí xiànzài gèguó zhījiān de jiāoliú yuèláiyuè jǐnmì, hěn duō yǐqián zài guówài cái mǎidedào de dōngxi, xiànzài dōu bèi yǐnrù Zhōngguó shìcháng, xiǎng chóngyángmèiwài yě nán yā. bùguò chūguó lǚyóu hái shì hěn bùcuò de, kěyǐ tǐyàn bùtóng de wénhuà hé mínzú fēngqíng, yǒu jīhuì nǐ yě qù guàngguang.
That's also true. Actually, these days, the relationships among all different countries are getting closer and closer. Now you can buy a lot of things you used to only be able to buy overseas are on the Chinese market. It's hard to blindly worship foreigners now. But traveling abroad is still great. You can experience different cultures and national atmospheres. If you get a chance, you should go, too!
