Mid-Autumn Festival is almost here! Have you bought your moon cakes?
hái méi ne. lǎoshí shuō wǒ yī xiǎngdào mǎi yuèbǐng jiù tóuténg. pǐnzhǒng nàme duō, wǒ dōu yào tiāo huā yǎn le.
Not yet. To tell you the truth, as soon as I think of moon cakes, I get a head-ache. There are so many different types, it's overwhelming.
True...even before the festival, ads for different kinds of moon cakes are all over the place. Mid-Autumn Festival has also become a battlefield for malls selling moon-cakes, and in fact we've lost sight of the original meaning of the holiday.
méicuò ā. wǒ dōu juéde méishénme xīnqíng guò zhōngqiūjié le. xiànzài gèzhǒng jiérì yǐjīng chéngwéi shāngjiā tuīxiāo shāngpǐn de yīzhǒng shǒuduàn, bù jǐn chuántǒng jiérì yào guò, xīfāng jiérì yě yào guò. guòwán shèngdàn guò xīnnián, guòwán xīnnián guò chūnjié, guòwán chūnjié hái yǒu yuánxiāojié ne! jiǎnzhí shì méiwánméiliǎo le.
Yeah. I don't even really feel like celebrating Mid-Autumn Festival. These days, every holiday has become just another method for businesses to flog their products. We don't just have to celebrate the traditional holidays, we also have to celebrate Western ones, too. As soon as you're done with Christmas, you have to celebrate the New Year, and after that it's Chinese New Year, and then the Lantern Festival. It just doesn't let up!
A 是呀。
shì yā. yǐqián liúxíng guò xīfāng de qíngrénjié, xiànzài qīxī yòu bèi chēngzuò dōngfāng de qíngrénjié. gèng kuāzhāng de shì jīnnián yīnwèi yǒu rùn qīyuè, suǒyǐ chūxiàn le liǎng ge qīxī, hái hàochēng shì sānshíbā nián cáinéng yùdào yīcì de shuāng qíngrénjié. yīncǐ shāngjiā de gèzhǒng huódòng yě céngchūbùqióng.
Yeah! In the past, many people celebrated the Western Valentine's Day. Now, Qixi is also being called ``The Valentine's Day of the East." Even more ridiculous, because there's an leap month this year, there are two Qixis. It's supposed to be the kind of double Valentine's Day that comes just once every thirty-eight years! So sales come out one after the other.
A double Valentine's Day? When you add in the Western Valentine's Day, doesn't that mean we're going to have three Valentine's Days this year? It's out of control! This year, Valentine's Days are close to becoming a double mental and physical burden for people.
wǒ yě juéde shì zhèyàng. qián xiē nián xiàng qíngrénjié, shèngdànjié děng xīyáng jiérì zài Zhōngguó dōu hái bù shì shífēn shèngxíng, zhè liǎng nián dào zhēn gǎnjué dào qíngrénjié de shìtóu lái de shífēn xùnměng le.
I think so, too. A few years back, Valentine's Day, Christmas and other Western holidays weren't completely in fashion in China. But in the last few years, Valentine's Day has really come in with a vengeance!
dàgài zhè jiùshì suǒwèi de shāngjī ba. gèzhǒng jiérì duìyú shāngjiā láishuō shì ge xiànchéng de qìjī. bùlùn wàilái de hái shì běntǔ de jiérì, zhǐyào nénggòu bèi tāmen lìyòng de, yīdìng dōu bùhuì fàng guò. xiàng qíngrénjié, shèngdànjié, zhōngqiūjié zhīlèi de zhòngyào jiérì jiù gēng bùyòng shuō le.
I guess that's what they call ``a business opportunity." As far as businesses are concerned, every holiday is a ready-made opportunity. It doesn't matter whether it's foreign or domestic-- as long as they can use it, they won't let go of it. And Valentine's Day, Christmas, Mid-Autumn Festival and other important holidays are even more so.
kànlài shāngyèhuà de jiérì yǐjīng bùzhībùjué de shènrùdào wǒmen de shēnghuó zhōng le. shèngdànjié gèng shì chéngwéi fēngkuáng xiāofèi de dàimíngcí. nǐ kàn yī dào niánmò, gè shāngjiā jiù kāishǐ xīngfèn bùyǐ, yǐ guòjié de míngyì tuīchū gèzhǒng dǎzhé cùxiāo huódòng, zhèyàng yī ge xīfāng chuántǒng de zōngjiào jiérì jiù yīnwèi tāmen ér gǎibiàn, yě yīn tāmen ér huǒbào.
It looks like commercialized holidays have already sneaked into our lives without our knowing it. Christmas has become a synonym for crazy consumption. Look, as soon as we get to the end of the year, all the businesses get extremely excited. In the name of celebrating the holidays, they push all kinds of discounts and sales. In that way, they've changed a traditional, Western religious holiday and made it even more bustling.
kěshì zhèyàng de jiérì gǎnjué yǐjīng bù xiàng jiérì le. suīrán tāmen yíngzào chū gèng duōde guòjié de qìfēn, dànshì yī kàndào mǎn dàjiē de jiérì dǎzhé, jiérì chóubīn, jiérì rànglì zhīlèi de guǎnggào, wǒ jiù huì chǎnshēng dǐchù guòjié de qíngxù.
But this way, it feels like holidays aren't really holidays anymore. Even though they've created an even stronger holiday atmosphere, as soon as I see sales, promotions all over the place, I get the urge to oppose the holidays.
bié xiǎng zhème duō la. zhǎo jǐ ge péngyou chūqù wánwān huòzhě zài jiā péi jiārén dōu shì hěn bùcuò de xuǎnzé ā. hǎohāo xiǎngshòu zìjǐ de jiérì cái zuì zhòngyāo.
Don't think about it so much. Getting a few friends together to go out and have some fun, or spending time with your family at home are both fine choices. The only important thing is to enjoy celebrating the holiday in your own way.
