The Yangshan Deep-Water Harbor is situated on Daxiaoyang Mountain, 27.5 kilometers to Shanghai's southeast. It's the closest place to major international air routes. A 據說要建上海國際航運中心，就必須要有一個水深15米以上的深水港，而洋山，是離上海最近的一處水深15米以上海域。另外，這片海域也是離國際主要航線最近的地方。因此，綜合各方面因素，港址最後被定在了離上海只有27.5公里的洋山島。

It's said that in order to make Shanghai an international shipping center, we must have a harbor deeper than fifteen meters. Yangshan is the nearest maritime area from Shanghai with a depth over fifteen meters. Plus, this is the nearest spot to major international air routes. So, on account of all these factors, Yangshan Island, just 27.5 kilometers away from Shanghai, was chosen as the site.

This free-trade harbor zone comprises the Xiaoyangshan Harbor Zone, the Donghai Bridge and the auxiliary areas on the mainland. After the construction of the free-trade harbor zone, the harbor zone, tariff zone, and export processing areas will be combined, and will enjoy preferential policies in tax revenue and foreign exchange in the tariff zone, export zone and export processing zone. This will also set a record for Shanghai's shipping container volume this year. You could say that because of Yangshan, Shanghai's harbors will improve even faster, and even more powerfully.

The regrettable thing is, the main function of the Donghai Bridge and the Yangshan Harbor Zone is to allow the shipping of large volumes of shipping containers. If there were too many ordinary cars, it might influence regular shipping. So at present, ordinary sight-seers are not allowed to cross the bridge to the harbor.
