nǐ zhīdào ma? wǒ biǎogē gānggāng shōudào Fùdàndàxué MBA de lùqǔ tōngzhīdān.
You know what? My cousin just got an acceptance letter to Fudan University's MBA program!
shì ma? gōngxǐ gōngxǐ. nǐ biǎogē zhēn lìhai!
Really? Congratulations! Your cousin is awesome!
āi. kěshì tā yīdiǎnr yě bù gāoxìng, shènzhì huái xiǎng fàngqì ne!
Agh. But he's not happy about it at all. He's even thinking about forfeiting it.
wèishénme ā? xiànzài MBA zhème rèmén, bìyè yǐhòu qiántúwúliàng ā!
Why? MBAs are so popular these days. After he graduates, his future will be wide open!
wǒ yě bù zhīdào. tīng wǒ biǎogē shuō, suīrán MBA hàochēng gāojí guǎnlǐ réncái de tōngdào, hěn duō rén dōu juéde MBA bìyè hòu tōngcháng néng zhuàn dàqián, kěshì xiànzài guónèi dú gōngshāng guǎnlǐ shuòshì de rén duōrúniúmáo, fǎn ér xiǎnde zhège zhèngshū méishénme hánjīnliàng le. gènghékuàng, xuéfèi hái guì de hèsǐ rén. dàgài tā zhēnzhèng xiǎng kǎo de shì guówài de MBA.
I don't know. To hear my cousin tell it, although the MBA calls itself the route to high level management, and a lot of people think that after they graduate from an MBA program they'll be able to earn a lot of money, tons of people in China go to grad school in industrial and commercial management, so there's nothing too special about the degree. What's more, the tuition is frighteningly expensive. What he'd probably really like to try for is a foreign MBA.
kěshì, suīrán Zhōngguó de MBA jiàoyù fāzhǎn hái bù suàn jiǔ, bù suàn tèbié chéngshú hé wánshàn, dàn wǒmen díquè shì xūyào dàliàng gāojí guǎnlǐ réncái ā. MBA jiàoyù zài Zhōngguó yīzhí zài zhúbù shēngwēn. cóng shíwǔ nián qián Qīnghuádàxué kāishǐ shìdiǎn péiyǎng MBA réncái, dào yī jiǔ jiǔ jiǔ nián yōngyǒu bānbù MBA zhèngshū zīge de gāoxiào shùmù jiù yǐjīng shàngshēng dào wǔshíliù suǒ, dào xiànzài gèng shì chéng jǐhé bèishù zēngzhǎng, bàokǎo rénshù hé bìyè réncái shù yě yuèláiyuèduō. wǒ dàoshì hěn zànchéng zài Zhōngguó běntǔ péiyǎng MBA réncái, zhèyàng bùjǐn shěng qù le yuǎnyáng xuéxí de chóngchóng kùnnan yǔ máfan, hái bìmiǎn le réncái liúshī. suǒyǐ yā, jǐnguǎn Zhōngguó de MBA jiàoyù hái chǔyú méngyá zhuàngtài, wǒmen hái shì yào jǐyǔ zhīchí de.
But although we can't say that the MBA in China has been developing for a long time, and it's not especially mature or complete, we definitely need a lot of high level management talent. MBA education in China has been getting gradually hotter. From Qinghua University's launch of MBA training fifteen years ago, to 1999 when the number of universities offering an MBA degree reached 56, to today, when the number is rising geometrically, more and more people are taking the entrance exams and graduating. I actually really support China's domestic training of MBAs. This way, not only do you save a lot of trouble and hassle by not needing to go far away to study, you also avoid a brain drain. So, although MBA training is just getting started in China, we should still support it.
wǒ hái shì juéde bùtài kěkào. suīshuō MBA shì yī ge xīnxīng shìwù, fāzhǎn kuài shì méiyǒu cuò, dàn guónèi MBA de jiàoyù zhìliàng shízài shì liángyǒubùqí. gè dà xuéxiào dōu zhēngxiān kāishè MBA kèchéng, què méiyǒu zúgòu de shīzī hé jiàoxué jīchǔ, bàokǎo MBA de xuéyuán yě shì yīwèi gēnfēng, gēnběn méiyǒu yīngyǒu de sùzhì hé jīchǔ. MBA jiàoyù běnlái shì duì yǒu yīdìng guǎnlǐ jīngyàn de rén jìnxíng gāojí guǎnlǐ péiyǎng de, suǒyǐ bàokǎo de tiáojiàn zhīyī jiùshì yào yǒu sān dào wǔ nián de gōngzuò jīngyàn, kěshì xiànzài zài guónèi, què chéngwéi le hěn duō rén wèile dédào wénpíng hé zhǎo gōngzuò de tiàobǎn. wǒ xiǎng zhè shì yǒubèi yú MBA jiàoyù de chūzhōng de.
I still think it's not that reliable. It's fine to say that the MBA is a new thing, and it should develop quickly. But the quality of education in domestic MBA programs is just very uneven. Every university is competing to be first to offer MBA classes, but they don't have enough teachers or an academic foundation. The students taking the MBA entrance exams are all just getting on the band wagon. They just don't have the necessary qualities or background. MBA education was originally to offer advanced management training to people who already had a certain amount of work experience. So one of the conditions of application was three to five years of work experience. But now, in China, people are using their MBA qualifications as a launch pad when they go job-hunting. I think that runs counter to the MBA's original intention.
díquè shì. xiànzài gèzhǒng MBA yuǎnchéng jiàoyù, bèikǎo fǔdǎo, quán tuōchǎn bān, quán yèyú bān, hái yǒu shénme jīběn yèyú bān Dōu céngchūbùqióng, kàn de rén tóuhūnyǎnhuā. `` guàyángtóumàigǒuròu" de qíngkuàng yě quèshí cúnzài. bùguò yīxiē míngxiào de MBA kèchéng hái shì yǒukǒujiēbēi de, tāmen hé guójì zhīmíng xuéxiào hézuò bìng pìnqǐng le hěn duō guójì míngshī qiánlái shòukè, wèi guójìhuà qǐyè zhíyè jīnglǐrén tígōng le xuéxí hé jiāoliú de píngtái. yǒude xuéxiào tuīchū de zhǐshì yīxiē xiāngguān de péixùn kèchéng, bìng bù shì MBA xuéwèi, dànshì réng yǒu hěn duō rén qiánlái bàomíng, yě shuōmíng le bìng bù shì suǒyǒu rén dōu shì wéile xuélì.
That's for sure. All kinds of MBA distance education, test prep coaching, work-study programs, basic part-time classes and such are coming out one after another. You get dizzy looking at them all. Then there's also ``bait and switch." But some top schools' MBA programs really do get wide praise. They cooperate with famous international schools and hire renowned international professors to come teach. They give managers from international companies a platform for study and exchange. What some schools have introduced is just related classes, certainly not an MBA degree. But a lot of people still come to sign up, which just goes to show that not everybody is doing it for the education.
kěshì xiànzài dú MBA ā, jiù hé dāngnián dú dàxué yīyàng, hěn duō rén zhǐshì juéde MBA bìyè le jiù yìwèi zhe zhǎodào le jīnfànwǎn, suǒyǐ cái yīwōfēng de qù xué. jiùsuàn xuéfèi zài guì, yě yǒu bù shǎo de rén nìngyuàn jǐ pò tóu de qù qù zhēngqǔ. wǒ biǎogē duìcǐ zé xiǎnde bǐjiào lěngjìng, juéde hái shì zhēnzhèng néng xuédào dōngxi gèng wéi zhòngyào.
But studying for an MBA these days is like college used to be: a lot of people think that once they've graduated, it'll be like they've found a ``golden rice bowl." That's the only reason they rush blindly off to study. No matter how high the tuition is, there will always be a lot of people willing to go all out to get accepted. My cousin is actually pretty cool toward all this stuff. He thinks it's better to actually be able to learn something.
nǐ zhīdào ma? Měiguó Māshěnglǐgōngdàxué de Sīlōng guǎnlǐ xuéyuàn zhīchí Zhōngguó kāibàn de guójì MBA xiàngmù, shǒupī hézuò de dàxué jiù zhǐyǒu Qīnghuádàxué hé Fùdàndàxué. tāmen dōu shì yǐ quán Yīngwén shòukè, mókuài shì jiàoxué, xīqǔ le guówài MBA jiàoxué de jīnghuá, bànxué zhìliàng yīnggāi hái shì xìn de guò de. zhùmíng de guójì zīxún gōngsī Màikěnxī de yuángōng yě dàduō shì cóng gè suǒ míngxiào bìyè de MBA réncái, suǒyǐ shuō MBA jiù hǎoxiàng shì jìnrù qǐyè guǎnlǐ gāocéng de hùzhào yě bù wéi guò.
You know what? The Sloan School of Management at MIT in America has given China support in opening International MBA Programs. The first batch of partner universities only includes Qinghua University and Fudan. They are all taught completely in English, with modular teaching methods. They've attracted the cream of overseas MBA education. The quality of education should be pretty good. Most employees of McKinsey, the famous international consulting firm, are MBA graduates from top universities. So it's not far off the mark to say that the MBA is a passport to the high levels of corporate management.
A 是嗎?
shì ma? tīng qǐlai hǎoxiàng hái bùcuò.
Is that so? Sounds like it's pretty good.
shìde, guónèi míngxiào de MBA kèchéng bù yīdìng bǐ guówài chà, yōngyǒu jīhuì ér bù qù dú shízài shì hěn kěxī de, suǒyǐ hái shì quànquan nǐ biǎogē zài hǎohāo kǎolǜ yīxià ba.
It is! Top domestic MBA programs are not necessarily any worse than foreign ones. It'd would be a real pity to have an opportunity to go study there but then not take it. So I still say you should encourage your cousin to think it over.
