1 A：聽說小陳這個學期有好幾門課被當。

Tīngshuō Xiǎo Chén zhè ge xuéqí yǒu hǎojǐ mén kè bèi dàng.

I heard that Xiao Chen flunked a number of his classes this semester.

B：這樣一來，他明年恐怕沒辦法畢業了。

Zhèyàng yìlái, tā míngnián kǒngpà méi bànfǎ bìyè le.

That being the case, there’s probably no way he'll be able to graduate next year.

2 A：我先生下星期要帶孩子去美國旅行一個月。

Wǒ xiānshēng xià xīngqí yào dài háizi qù Měiguó lǚxíng yí ge yuè.

Next week, my husband is taking the kids to the US for a one-month trip.

B：真的啊。這樣一來，妳就不必天天做飯了。

Zhēn de a. Zhèyàng yìlái, nǐ jiù búbì tiāntiān zuòfàn le.

Really? So I guess you don’t have to cook every day.

3 A：電視新聞說這個週末有颱風要來。

Diànshì xīnwén shuō zhè ge zhōumò yǒu táifēng yào lái.

The news on TV said that a typhoon is coming this weekend.

B：這樣一來，我們就不能去海邊玩了。

Zhèyàng yìlái, wǒmen jiù bù néng qù hǎibiān wán le.

In that case, we can’t go to the seaside.

4 A：媽媽建議讓弟弟下課以後去學游泳、書法跟網球。

Māma jiànyì ràng dìdi xiàkè yǐhòu qù xué yóuyǒng, shūfǎ gēn wǎngqiú.

Mom suggested having my kid brother go to swimming, calligraphy, and tennis classes after school.

B：太好了。這樣一來，他就不會整天在家看電視、打電玩了。

Tài hǎo le. Zhèyàng yìlái, tā jiù bú huì zhěng tiān zài jiā kàn diànshì, dǎ diànwán le.

Great. That way, he won’t be in the house all day watching TV and playing video games.

5 A：最近三個星期，我住的城市幾乎天天下雨。而且新聞還說，下個禮拜雨還不會停。

Zuìjìn sān ge xīngqí, wǒ zhù de chéngshì jīhū tiāntiān xiàyǔ. Érqiě xīnwén hái shuō, xià ge lǐbài yǔ hái bú huì tíng.

Over the past three weeks it has rained almost every day in the city I live in. And the news says that it’s not going to stop next week either.
