Function 怎麼, ‘how?’, is a question adverb, used to ask how something is done.

Usage 怎麼 ‘How?’ is quite different from 怎麼樣 ‘How is it? What do you think?’ 怎麼 is an adverb, whereas 怎麼樣 is a state verb. Compare 這個菜怎麼做？Zhè ge cài zěnme zuò? ‘How is this dish made?’ with這個菜怎麼樣？Zhè ge cài zěnmeyàng? ‘How is this dish? /What do you think of this dish?’
