Function The V＋在 pattern specifies the location of a noun resulting from an action.

1 那張椅子，請你放在樓下。

Nà zhāng yǐzi, qǐng nǐ fàng zài lóuxià.

Please put that chair downstairs.

2 這些複雜的漢字，我要寫在本子上。

Zhèxiē fùzá de Hànzì, wǒ yào xiě zài běnzi shàng.

I want to write these difficult Chinese characters in the notebook.

3 履歷表先留在我這裡。有適合的工作再告訴你。

Lǚlì biǎo xiān liú zài wǒ zhèlǐ. Yǒu shìhé de gōngzuò zài gàosù nǐ.

Structures

Negation：Negation proceeds primary verbs, not 在, whether 不/別, 沒有 or 不是.

1 書別放在椅子上。請拿到房間去。

Shū bié fàng zài yǐzi shàng. Qǐng ná dào fángjiān qù.

Don’t put the book on the chair, please take it into the room.

2 我沒留甜點在桌子上。我把甜點吃了。

Wǒ méi liú tiándiǎn zài zhuōzi shàng. Wǒ bǎ tiándiǎn chī le.

I didn’t leave the dessert on the table. I ate it.

3 他的錢沒存在銀行裡。他太太很不高興。

Tā de qián méi cún zài yínháng lǐ. Tā tàitai hěn bù gāoxìng.

His wife was very upset that his money was not deposited in the bank.

4 錢不是放在銀行裡，匯到日本了。

Qián búshì fàng zài yínháng lǐ, huì dào Rìběn le.

He didn’t put the money in the bank. He had it wired to Japan.
