▎又 A 又 B, (yòu (Adv) A yòu (Adv) B), both A and B

 

Function The pattern 又 A 又 B, ‘not only A but also B’ is used to indicate two qualities, situations, or behaviors that are true of the person or thing being discussed.

1 這家餐廳的菜，又便宜又好吃，所以我們常來吃。

Zhè jiā cāntīng de cài, yòu piányí yòu hǎochī, suǒyǐ wǒmen cháng lái chī.

The food in this restaurant is both inexpensive and delicious, so we often eat here.

2 坐高鐵又快又舒服，可是有一點貴。

Zuò gāotiě yòu kuài yòu shūfú, kěshì yǒu yìdiǎn guì.

Taking the High Speed Rail is both fast and comfortable, but it’s a little expensive.

3 我又想喝茶又想喝咖啡，但是這裡沒有便利商店。

Wǒ yòu xiǎng hē chá yòu xiǎng hē kāfēi, dànshì zhèlǐ méi yǒu biànlì shāngdiàn.

I want to drink both tea and coffee, but there are no convenience stores here.

 

Structures 又＋ Vs ＋又＋ Vs

Negation：The negation marker 不bù appears after both the first 又 and the second 又, forming 又不 A 又不 B, yòu bù A, yòu bù B.

1 老闆今天做的臭豆腐，又不臭又不辣。我覺得不好吃。

Lǎobǎn jīntiān zuò de chòudòufǔ yòu bú chòu yòu bú là. Wǒ juéde bù hǎochī.

The stinky tofu that the vendor made today tastes neither stinky nor spicy. I don’t think it tastes any good.

2 我的舊手機又不能照相又不能上網。我想應該買新的了。

Wǒ de jiù shǒujī yòu bù néng zhàoxiàng yòu bù néng shàngwǎng. Wǒ xiǎng yīnggāi mǎi xīn de le.

My old cellphone cannot take photos, nor can it go online. I have to get a new one.
