▎見, jiàn, (Ptc), as Verb Complement, perceieved
Function When 見 follows a perceptual verb, it indicates that the object of an action (such as of seeing or hearing) is perceived.
1 昨天我在夜市看見小美了。
Zuótiān wǒ zài yèshì kànjiàn Xiǎoměi le.
Yesterday, I saw Xiaomei at the night market.
2 你跟別人說的話,我都聽見了。
Nǐ gēn biérén shuō de huà, wǒ dōu tīngjiàn le.
I heard everything that you said to others.
3 我們都看見你把書拿回去了。
Wǒmen dōu kànjiàn nǐ bǎ shū ná huíqù le.
We all saw that you took the book back with you.
Structures
Negation:Only 沒-negation is possible.
1 東西在哪裡?我沒看見啊!
Dōngxi zài nǎlǐ? Wǒ méi kànjiàn a!
Where is it? I didn’t see it.
2 我沒聽見他說什麼。
Wǒ méi tīngjiàn tā shuō shénme.
I didn’t hear what he said.
3 請你再說一次,我沒聽見。
Qǐng nǐ zài shuō yí cì, wǒ méi tīngjiàn.
Please say that again. I didn’t hear.
Questions:
1 我的背包,你看見了沒有?
Wǒ de bēibāo, nǐ kànjiàn le méi yǒu?
Did you see my backpack?
2 老師說的,你是不是聽見了?
Lǎoshī shuō de, nǐ shìbúshì tīngjiàn le?
Did you hear what the teacher said?
3 張先生呢?你看見他走出來了嗎?
Zhāng xiānshēng ne? Nǐ kànjiàn tā zǒu chūlái le ma?
What about Mr. Zhang? Did you see him come out?
Usage There’s a clear difference in meaning between using a perception verb alone or with the complement 見.
1 a. 我沒聽他說話。
Wǒ méi tīng tā shuōhuà.
I was not listening to him.
b. 我沒聽見他說話。
Wǒ méi tīngjiàn tā shuōhuà.
I didn’t hear him talk.
2 a. 他想去動物園看熊貓。
Tā xiǎng qù dòngwùyuán kàn xióngmāo.
He wants to go to the zoo and see pandas.
b. 他在動物園看見兩隻熊貓。
Tā zài dòngwùyuán kànjiàn liǎng zhī xióngmāo.
He saw two pandas in the zoo.
