把, bǎ, (Ptc), Unintentional Event (6)

 

Function While most 把 sentences refer to intentional, purposeful, acts on the part of the subject, there are a few occurrences of 把 sentences, but their frequency is rather high.

1 我太忙,把先生要我買的東西忘得乾乾淨淨。

Wǒ tài máng, bǎ xiānshēng yào wǒ mǎi de dōngxi wàng de gāngān jìngjìng.

I was so busy that I clean forgot to buy what my husband asked me to.

2 他把重要的隨身碟掉了,急著到處找。

Tā bǎ zhòngyào de suíshēndié diào le, jízhe dàochù zhǎo.

He lost his flash drive, so he is anxiously looking everywhere for it.

3 老師跟學生說:「你回國以後別把學過的中文忘了。」

Lǎoshī gēn xuéshēng shuō: ‘Nǐ huíguó yǐhòu bié bǎ xuéguò de Zhōngwén wàng le.’

The teacher told his student, ‘Don’t forget all the Chinese you learned after you return to your country.’
