Today is Friday. It is Friday afternoon, and the children are in the classroom with their teacher. Friday is the last day of the school week. The children don’t go to school on Saturdays and Sundays. They only study at school from Mondays to Fridays. That is the school week.

今天是週五。週五下午,孩子們和老師在教室裡。週五是一週裡學校上課的最後一天。孩子們在週六和週日不上學。他們僅僅在週一到週五上學。那就是學校上課的一週。

Now, the teacher is writing on the whiteboard. She is writing some new English words that she wants the children to learn. Some of the children are writing the new words in their books. Other children are writing on paper. All the children are interested in learning these new words.

The new words are the names of some of the animals on farms and in zoos. The teacher told all the children to be careful when they write. She said all the children should try to write carefully.

The teacher said she will try to write the names of all the animals she can think of. She will try to write all those words on the whiteboard. There are lots of words on the whiteboard now: tiger, elephant, monkey, snake, rat, parrot, rabbit, chicken, duck, fish and cow. Those are all the animals the teacher can think of.

老師說她會試著寫下她能想到的所有動物的名稱。她會試著在白板上寫下所有單詞。白板上現在已經有很多單詞了:老虎、大象、猴子、蛇、老鼠、鸚鵡、兔子、雞、鴨、魚和牛。那些是老師能想到的所有動物。

The last name on the whiteboard is ‘cow’. That’s an easy word to spell, isn’t it? All the children know how to spell cow. Some of the other names are not so easy to spell, but the teacher told the children they should try to learn how to spell them all.

白板上的最後一個動物名稱是“cow(牛)”。cow很好拼寫,不是嗎?所有孩子都知道怎樣拼寫cow。有些其他動物的名稱不容易拼寫,但是老師告訴孩子們他們應該努力學會拼寫所有動物名稱。

The teacher said that when the children finish writing, they can draw pictures of some of the animals. Lee wants to draw pictures of farm animals like cows, chickens and ducks. Pat is going to draw pictures of different animals. Pat wants to draw pictures of animals like tigers, elephants and monkeys.

老師說,孩子們寫完單詞後就可以畫一些動物的圖畫了。李想畫農場動物比如牛、雞和鴨的圖畫。佩特想畫老虎、大象和猴子這類動物的圖畫。

The teacher finishes writing on the whiteboard and goes to look at the children’s books and papers. If any of the children’s writing is wrong, the teacher will correct it. Pat is already drawing her animal pictures, but Lee is still writing. He is writing down the last words from the whiteboard.

老師在白板上寫完單詞,去檢查孩子們的作業本和紙。如果有孩子的拼寫錯誤,老師就會糾正。佩特已經在畫她的動物圖片了,可是李還在寫單詞。他在寫白板上的最後幾個單詞。

What are you drawing, Pat?

Pat

I’m drawing zoo animals like tigers, elephants and monkeys. What about you?

Lee

When I finish writing, I’m going to draw farm animals like cows, chickens and ducks.

Pat

Oh, I know you can draw very well now. Last week, I looked at one of your pictures. It was a picture of a cow. It was really beautiful!

Lee

Oh, did you think so? Really?

Pat

Yes. The teacher said you can draw much better than all the other children in our class.

Lee

I don’t think so. I think Tom can draw better than me. Last week, he did a picture of an elephant that was really good.

Pat

Oh, I’d like to see that. Let’s ask him to draw it again. Let’s ask him to draw it on the whiteboard so all of us can look at it.

Lee

Okay, I’ll go and ask him. I’ll have to ask the teacher, too. She only lets us draw on the whiteboard if we as her first.

Pat

Yes, she said we have to be very careful when we write and draw on the whiteboard. She said she doesn’t want us to see things on the whiteboard that are wrong.

Lee

Oh, look! Tom isn’t here. Where is he?

Pat

Tom went home this morning. He said he had a headache. He went home to get some medicine from his mommy.

Lee

Is he coming back this afternoon?

Pat

I don’t know. Tom’s house is not near the school. I don’t think he will have enough time to come back.

Lee

I know. Why don’t we go and see him after school? We can go and see if he is better or not.

Pat

Yes, and we can take him some paper to draw some new pictures on.

Lee

Yes. Okay. Let’s do that. We can go after school. We can go at half-past four.

你在畫什麼,佩特?

佩特

我在畫動物園的動物比如老虎、大象和猴子。你呢?

等我寫完,我打算畫農場動物比如牛、雞和鴨。

佩特
