Function This pattern presents two different perspectives on an instance, two different circumstances of one and the same instance.
1 她去聽五月天的演唱會,一方面想放鬆心情,一方面也想了解為什麼五月天這麼受歡迎。
Tā qù tīng Wǔyuètiān de yǎnchànghuì, yì fāngmiàn xiǎng fàngsōng xīnqíng, yì fāngmiàn yě xiǎng liǎojiě wèishénme Wǔyuètiān zhème shòu huānyíng.
She went to the May Day concert, on the one hand, to kick back and relax, on the other, to figure out why the band is so popular.
2 她暑假去打工,一方面想賺點錢,一方面也想學一些社會經驗。
Tā shǔjià qù dǎgōng, yì fāngmiàn xiǎng zhuàn diǎn qián, yì fāngmiàn yě xiǎng xué yìxiē shèhuì jīngyàn.

Going back to your hometown during holidays allows you to, on the one hand, get together with your family, and on the other, see old schoolmates.
Usage This is a somewhat literary construction, rarely used in colloquial speech.
