▎多, duó, (Adv), intensifying, how...! (3)

 

Function 多 expresses a high level of intensity, an exaggeration, or charged emotion. This type of sentence often ends with the particle 呀 or 啊.

1 這裡的風景多美啊！真是百聞不如一見。

Zhèlǐ de fēngjǐng duó měi a! Zhēnshi bǎiwén bùrú yíjiàn.

The scenery here is so beautiful! It is something you have to see to believe.

2 你看，老闆給我的薪水這麼少，多小氣呀！

Nǐ kàn, lǎobǎn gěi wǒ de xīnshuǐ zhème shǎo, duó xiǎoqì ya!

See! My boss is paying me a pittance, what a cheapskate!

3 表弟每天搭計程車去學校上課。多浪費啊！

Biǎodì měi tiān dā jìchéngchē qù xuéxiào shàngkè. Duó làngfèi a!

Every day my cousin takes a taxi to school. How extravagant!

4 你不知道導演他的脾氣多暴躁！動不動就罵人。

Nǐ bù zhīdào dǎoyǎn tā de píqì duó bàozào! Dòngbúdòng jiù mà rén.

You don’t know how hot-tempered the director is! He’ll lash out without warning.

5 這棟建築多堅固啊！地震以後只有它沒倒。

Zhè dòng jiànzhú duó jiāngù a! Dìzhèn yǐhòu zhǐyǒu tā méi dǎo.

This building is so sturdy! It’s the only one that didn’t collapse during the earthquake.
