What do you think about our generation, the children of the '80s?
zěnme tūrán xiǎng qǐ wèn zhège?
How did you suddenly think to ask?
dàjiā dōu shuō wǒmen shì Zhōngguó de xiànzài hé wèilái, lìngwài yòu shì zhēngyì tèbié dà de yī dài rén.
Everyone says we're the present and future of China. We're also a very controversial generation.
zhè dāngrán, wǒmen shì Zhōngguó shèhuì hé wénhuà biàngé de chǎnwù. yǔcǐtóngshí shēnshàng yě jíhé le hěn duō máodùn, jiùxiàng Zhōngguó shèhuì. érqiě wǒmen yě shì fùyǒu xīwàng, gèxìng hé mèngxiǎng de yī dài, zhè yě hé xiànzài de Zhōngguó yīyàng.
Of course! We're the products of social and cultural transformation in China. And so we have a lot of contradictions, just like Chinese society. And we're a generation rich in hope, individuality, and dreams. This is also just like modern China.
ng4, hǎo duō rén hái bǎ wǒmen kànzuò shì chuántǒng Zhōngguó guānniàn hé jiàzhí yǔ xiàndài de fēnshuǐlǐng. kě wǒ juéde wǒmen bù shì diānfù, réngrán chuánchéng le zǔzōng de wénhuà, zhǐshì yǐ yī zhǒng gèng xīn de fāngshì lái biǎodá. wǒmen de sīxiǎng gèngjiā dúlì, yě gèng chuàngxīn hé bāoróng.
Ah, a lot of people see us as the dividing line between modern and traditional Chinese ideas and values. But I don't think we're revolutionaries. We've inherited the culture of our ancestors, but we use an updated method to express it. Our thinking is more independent, innovative, and tolerant.
shì ā. nǐ kàn, xiàng Chāonǚ, Hán Hán, Liú Xiáng, dōu dàibiǎo le zhè yī dài zhāngyáng, zìxìn de zhōngguórén. wǒ juéde zhè jiùshì xīn de Zhōngguó xíngxiàng. bùguò yě yǒu hǎo duō rén kànbuguàn, rènwéi wǒmen tài guò zìwǒ, quēfá zérèngǎn hé jítǐ yìshi, bǎ zǔxiān liú xiàlai de yōuliáng chuántǒng dōu gěi diū le.
Yeah. Look at ``Super Girl," the blogger Han Han, and the runner Liu Xiang. They all stand for a new, self-confident kind of Chinese person. I think they're the new image of China. But there are a lot of people who don't care for them. They say they're too egotistical, lacking a sense of responsibility and social awareness. They've lost all the great traditions that our ancestors handed down.
zhè zhǒng shuōfa yě tài piànmiàn le. díquè shì yǒu yīxiē bālíng hòu zài zhè fāngmiàn zuò de bùgòu hǎo. dànshì yě bùnéng yī gānzi dǎfān yī chuán rén ā. wǒ juéde wǒmen suǒ biǎoxiàn de shì zuì zhēnshí de zìjǐ, zhè yě zhèng shì wǒmen zhè dài rén zuì kěguì de dìfang. wǒ jiù juéde yǒu jù huà shuō de hěn duì. zhēnshí shì yīqiè měihǎo xīwàng de kāishǐ.
That interpretation is too one-sided. There are some things that the children of the 80s haven't done well enough. But you can't paint with such a broad brush. I think what we show is our truest selves. That's the most valuable part of our generation. I think one sentence really says it all: truth is the start of all beautiful hopes.
yō, zhēn kàn bu chūlái nǐ shì ge wénxué qīngnián ā, hái yǐnjīngjùdiǎn ne.
Ah, you can't tell by looking that you're such a literate young fellow. You can even work in some classical quotes!
bù gēn nǐ shuō le. nǐ jìng ná wǒ kāi wánxiào.
I don't want to talk to you anymore. You're just making fun of me.
Don't get angry. I think what you just said is very true. I've always thought that our process of growing up was pretty lopsided. On the one hand, we've got all our family's love and protection. And on the other hand we have to shoulder a ton of pressure. Forget about the hopes society places on us; our parents' and elders' lofty wishes for us give us a huge amount of pressure. They crush all the joy of childhood out of us.
nánguài huì yǒu Hán Hán zhè zhǒng `` fènqīng" le. kàn shénme dōu bù shuǎng.
It's no wonder there are angry young people like Han Han. They're never happy with anything.
shì ā, hǎo duō rén dōu bǎ tā kànzuò bālíng hòu de dàiyánrén, suǒyǐ gěi suǒyǒu de bālíng hòu dōu kòu le yī dǐng màozi. shuō wǒmen jì méiyǒu fùbèi de lǐxiǎng hé zhuīqiú, yě méiyǒu xuédào tāmen de fèndòu hé zìxǐng jīngshén, zǒngzhī bǎ wǒmen shuōchéng shì méiyǒu línghún hé sīxiǎng `` quēgài" de yī dài.
Yeah. A lot of people see him as the spokesperson for children of the '80s. So he's given everyone from that generation a certain stigma. They say that we don't have the ideals and aspirations of our elders, and that we haven't learned their spirit of struggle and self-examination. They say we're a soulless generation that doesn't know how to think.
tài guòfèn le, zěnme néng zhèyàng? yǐqián yǐwéi bālíng hòu hé qiánbèi zài wǎngshàng kāimà zhè zhǒng xíngwéi hěn kěxiào, xiànzài kànlái zhēnde yǒu kāimà de bìyào le.
That's over the top. How can they say that? In the past I always thought that online shouting matches between the children of the '80s and the older generation were ridiculous. Now it looks like there's really a need for some yelling.
yǒu shénme hǎo mà de? zuì zhòngyào de shì wǒmen bālíng hòu yào yòng zìjǐ de tóunǎo lái sīkǎo, zuòchū hélǐ de pànduàn. zhìyú wǒmen dàodǐ shì xīwàng háishi míshī de yī dài, wǒ xiǎng, shíjiān shì zuìhǎo de zhèngmíng.
What is there to yell about? The most important thing is for us to use our brains and make reasonable judgments. As for whether we are actually a generation of hope or a lost generation, I think time will be the best proof.
