tīngshuō nǐ jiějie zuìjìn shēng háizi le?
I hear your elder sister recently had a kid?
shì ā, shēng le ge nǚér.
That's right. She had a girl.
cháng de yīdìng hěn piàoliang ba.
She must be very beautiful.
nà dāngrán, gēn yángwáwá yíyàng, jiàn guo de rén dōu shuō kěài.
Of course, she's as pretty as a foreign baby. Everyone who's seen her says she's cute.
tā shì húnxiěér ma, yìbānláishuō, húnxiěér dōu shì yòu cōngming yòu piàoliang de.
She's got mixed blood. Generally, people with mixed-blood are both intelligent and beautiful.
shì ma? zhè yòu shì cóng nǎr tīnglái de?
Really? Where'd you hear that?
shì wǒ zài wǎngshàng kàndào de. gēnjù yíchuánxué yuánlǐ, fùmǔ de xiěyuán guānjì yuè yuǎn, jīyīn páiliè yuè bùtóng, shēngchūlai de bǎobao pǐnzhì jiù yuè gāo, yuè róngyì shíxiàn yòushì jīyīn hùbǔ. nǐ kàn xiànzài nàxiē piàoliang de míngxīng, hěn duō dōu shì húnxiěér ne. wǒ sǐdǎng de nánpéngyou yě shì húnxiěér, búdàn cháng de shuài, hái jīngtōng wǔ guó yǔyán, dàjiā bù zhīdào yǒu duō xiànmù tā ne, dōu shuō tā jiǎn le ge bǎo.
I saw it on the Internet. According to a principle of genetics, the further apart the blood ties of the parents, the more different the genetic arrangement will be, and the higher the likelihood that the baby will be of really good stock. The excellent genes complement each other. Look at those beautiful stars-- a lot of them have mixed blood. My very close boyfriend also has mixed blood. Not only is he handsome, he's fluent in five languages. Everybody envies him so much, and says he really hit the jackpot.
shídài guǒrán bùtóng le, jìde wǒ xiǎo de shíhou, bān lǐ yǒu ge tóngxué shì húnxiěér, dàjiā dōu hěn qíshì tā, hái mà tā shì zázhǒng ne, méixiǎngdào xiànzài húnxiěér zhème chīxiāng.
As expected, the times have changed. I remember when I was young I had a mixed blood classmate. Everybody really discriminated against him, and called him a bastard. I had no idea that people of mixed blood would be so well-received these days.
yǐqián de rén bǐjiào zhùzhòng xuètǒng de chúncuì, duìyú bùtóng fūsè, mínzú de rén zǒng yǒu páichì xīnlǐ, kě xiànzài bù shì tíchàng xiāochú zhǒngzú qíshì ma? érqiě xiànzài guójì jiāoliú zhème pínfán, jiēshòu guójì hūnyīn de rén yuèláiyuèduō, duì húnxiěér de kànfǎ zìrán yě yǒusuǒ gǎibiàn.
In the past, people used to pay a lot of attention to the purity of blood. They discriminated against people of different races or colors. But now isn't everyone talking about getting rid of racial discrimination? And now, there's so much international exchange, more and more people are accepting of mixed-nationality marriages. So people's opinions about mixed blood children have also naturally changed.
shì ā, zhìshǎo wǒ zhōuwéi de rén dōu hěn xǐhuan húnxiěér. jiù ná wǒ de wàishengnǚ láishuō ba, bùguǎn shì wǒ jiějie de línjū háishì péngyou, měicì kàndào zhè háizi dōu qiāng zhe yào bào tā qīn tā. dàjiā hái shuō, zhè háizi jiānglái kěndìng shì ge xiǎo cáinǚ, xuéguànzhōngxī, qiántú bùkěxiànliàng ā.
Yeah. At least, the people around me all really like mixed race people. Just take my niece for example. No matter whether it's my sister's neighbors or her friends-- whenever anyone sees her, they want to pick her up and hold her and kiss her. Everybody says that in the future this kid will definitely be very talented. She'll be able to master the West and China. There's no telling where she'll go.
bǐ qǐ qítā háizi, húnxiěér cóngxiǎo zài duō yǔyán, duō wénhuà de jiātíng huánjìng zhōng zhǎngdà, yǒu xuéxí yòushì nà shì wúyōngzhìyí de, bùguò kěndìng yě huì miànlín pǔtōng háizi suǒ méiyǒu de fánnǎo.
Compared with other kids, there's no doubt that growing up in a multi-lingual, multi-cultural home gives mixed blood children a big academic advantage. But they also definitely face some headaches that ordinary kids don't have.
kě bùshì ma, yuǎn de bù shuō, jiù shuō guójí wèntí, zuìjìn wǒ jiějie hé jiěfu huán zhēnglùnbùxiū ne. wǒ jiěfu shì měiguórén, Měiguó fǎlǜ yǔnxǔ duō chóng guójí, kěshì háizi zài Zhōngguó chūshēng, ér Zhōngguó shì bù chéngrèn shuāngchóng guójí de.
Ain't that the truth. Don't even think about the abstract stuff. Just think about citizenship. Lately my sister and her husband have been talking about this stuff all the time. My brother-in-law is an American. American law permits dual citizenship, but the kid was born in China, and China does not recognize dual citizenship.
zhè yǒu shénme hǎo fánnǎo de, háizi zài Zhōngguó de shíhou jiùshì zhōngguórén, zài Měiguó de shíhou jiùshì měiguórén, děng tā mǎn le shí bā suì, ràng tā zìjǐ xuǎnzé guójí bù jiù xíng le. quánqiúhuà shídài, shì nǎ guó gōngmín bìng bù zhòngyào, zhǐyào duì rénlèi yǒu gòngxiàn jiù xíng.
What good is it to get worked up about that? When the kid is in China she's Chinese, and when she's in America she's an American. Wait until she's eighteen, then have her choose which nationality she wants to be. Problem solved. In the era of globalization, it doesn't matter what nationality you are. As long as you make a contribution to humanity, that's enough.
yàoshì rénrén dōu xiàng nǐ zhème xiǎng, wèntí kě jiù jiǎndān duō le.
If everyone thought the way you do, the world's problems would be a lot simpler.
