A 就是同性戀的意思。我們把男同性戀叫做“男同志”，把女同性戀叫做“女同志”，統稱“同志”。當然，中文裡還有其他表示同性戀的詞，比如“玻璃”、“斷背”、“斷袖”等等，都是比較隱晦的說法。

It means ``gay." We call male gays ``male comrades," and lesbians are ``female comrades," or just ``comrades." Of course, Chinese also has other ways to say ``gay," such as ``glass," ``Brokeback," and ``cut sleeves." Those are all quite obscure ways of saying it.

A 這個嘛，怎麼說呢，雖然現在社會提倡人人平等，比起過去，大家對同性戀的態度寬容了許多。尤其是接受能力強的年輕人，很多傳統禁忌對他們來說都不算什麼。不過反對同性戀的現象還是普遍存在的，所以在中國，很少會有人公開自己的同志身份。

Hmmm....well...how can I put this...Modern society promotes the idea that everyone is equal, and everyone's attitude toward gays is much more tolerant than in the past. That's especially true of young people, who have a much easier time accepting things. For them, a lot of traditional taboos don't count for anything. But homophobia is still widespread. So in China, it's rare for anyone to openly admit that they are gay.
B 那談戀愛的時候豈不是要偷偷摸摸，躲躲藏藏的？

A 是啊，中國的同性戀情基本處於地下隱蔽狀態，雖然近幾年來，同志網站、同志文學、同志電影越來越多，不過在現實生活中，同性戀還是一個比較禁忌的話題。人們一般不會公開談論。

A 在中國人的傳統觀念中，“不孝有三，無後為大”，因為無法承擔傳宗接代的責任，很多同性戀者本身都會覺得對不起父母，心懷愧疚感，又怎麼會為自己感到自豪呢？
