▎甚至, shènzhì, (Adv), even

 

Function 甚至 is an adverb which marks something in the sentence as extraordinary.

1 這種款式的包包非常受歡迎，甚至連續劇的女主角都拿過。我非買不可。

Zhè zhǒng kuǎnshì de bāobāo fēicháng shòu huānyíng, shènzhì liánxùjù de nǚzhǔjiǎo dōu náguò. Wǒ fēi mǎi bùkě.

This style of bag is quite popolar. Even the leading lady in a TV series had one. I have to buy one.

2 很多小農為了友善對待土地，最近甚至連農藥都不用了。

Hěn duō xiǎonóng wèile yǒushàn duìdài tǔdì, zuìjìn shènzhì lián nóngyào dōu bú yòng le.

For the sake of a healthy soil, recently, many small farmers are even going so far as to not use pesticides.

3 鳳梨對臺灣經濟發展一直有很大的幫助，臺灣出口的鳳梨甚至曾經占世界第二位。

Fènglí duì Táiwān jīngjì fāzhǎn yìzhí yǒu hěn dà de bāngzhù, Táiwān chūkǒu de fènglí shènzhì céngjīng zhàn shìjiè dì’èr wèi.

Pineapples have always been a big help to Taiwan’s economic development. Taiwan’s pineapple exports were even once number two in the world.

4 十六世紀時，歐洲人不但到中南美洲做生意，甚至到東方來從事貿易活動。

Shíliù shìjì shí, Ōuzhōu rén búdàn dào Zhōngnán Měizhōu zuò shēngyì, shènzhì dào Dōngfāng lái cóngshì màoyì huódòng.

During the 16th century, Europeans not only went to Central and South America to do business, they even came to the East to engage in trade activities.

Usage

(1) 甚至 is often followed by 連lián, which marks exceptional circumstances. Please refer to 連 A 都 B.
